Fans of legendary Neil Diamond will want to rush out and get The Essential Neil Diamond (Columbia) that features 38 songs from his remarkable career. The record spans from 1966 to 2001. Songs include fav-orites and hits like "Solitary Man," "Ken-tucky Wom-an," (which Deep Purple did a marvelous rendition of!), "Cher-ry Cherry," "I'm A Believer (which The Monkees had a hit with) and "America." And there's 10 live concert tracks - 6 previously unreleased. Highly recommended!
Winsor Harmon, who plays Thorne Forrester on CBS's The Bold & The Beautiful, is also a country singer and just released his debut record Winsor. He teamed up with legendary country music promoter and producer Ray Ruff and renowned guitarist James Burton (Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison) to make his record. Some of the other musicians appearing on the record are Don Randi (Nancy Sinatra) on piano and keyboards, Chet McCracken (Doobie Bros.) on drums, Jerry Cole on guitar and Doug Ramsey on steel guitar.
The 2002 NAMM Trade Show will be January 17-20 at the Anaheim Convention Center. One of the themes will be the importance of music making, i.e., music is a universal language, has extraordinary effects on people from improving IQ and test scores, to increasing immune response in cancer patients and to delivering emotional messages that are particularly important during trying times.
The soundtrack for the French film Brotherhood of the Wolf (Virgin) will be released January 8. The film's dark and haunting theme is beautifully echoed through the music composed by Joseph LoDuca. The movie will open on Jan. 11.
Dokken are on tour in support of their new record Long Way Home (CMC), to be released in February. Vocalist Don Dokken and drummer Mick Brown are joined by two new members guitarist John Norum (Europe) and bassist Barry Sparks (Michael Schenker, Yngwie). The year 2002 marks the band’s 20th anniversary. Catch them live at the House of Blues in Hollywood on February 2.
Pure Rubbish, of Houston, will be in LA in January to finish recording their first full length release Glamourous Youth for Ozzy Osbourne's label, Divine Recordings. The band spent the summer opening the Ozzfest second stage and have opened for Motorhead and AC/DC. Their average is 17 and they were inspired by bands like the Sex Pistols and GNR.
UK trance act Astralasia released their 9th CD Something Somewhere (Transient) that’s filled with sensational upbeat dance, techno music. They are one of the leading lights of the UK’s traveler dance music scene.
Actor and musician Bruce Willis started his own music company Uptop Entertainment. Joining him will be his friend Gary Gold, a musician and producer for 25 years who worked with the likes of John Lennon, B.B. King, Steely Dan and Bruce’s band The Accelerators. Their first signed artist is Ivan Neville, son of Aaron Neville of the Neville Brothers. Ivan’s new record Saturday Morning Music features Keith Richards and Bonnie Raitt.
