•Marcus Roberts Trio 2/17 at Cal State Northridge, 5pm. This pianist's abilities are almost beyond compare. He won the first Thelonious Monk Competition and is generally regarded as one of the jazz scene's best and most versatile players. A must see.
•Mose Allison with incredible bass guitarist Dave Carpenter; 2/19 - 2/24 8:00 & 9:30PM at The Jazz Bakery 3233 Helms Ave Culver City; $25; 310-271-9039. (www.jazzbakery.org) Mose makes music history with every note (and has been since 1957).
•Raya Yarborough Quartet; 2/22 at Lunaria (Beverly Glen & Santa Monica); 310-282-8870. It will not take long for this emerging vocalist to become very important on the jazz scene. Beautiful voice, beautiful person, lots of presence.
•At the Baked Potato 3787 Cahuenga Blvd West, NoHolly 818-980-1615 (www.thebakedpotato.com) shows at 9:30 & 11:30. The Baked Potato features some of the absolute best jazz acts in L.A. with a great, down to earth, dirty jazz atmosphere. Very intimate. The real deal. Plus, their Baked Potato entrees are a tasty (and filling) treat.
