Love, sweet love, comes back to us like spring, and renews us. Thank you, Mary Armstrong, for your poem “Spring,” with 3 rhyming stanzas, reminiscent of the Shakespearean sonnet form. -AM

SPRING

Love plays me like a violin
Upon a single string
Love betrays me and pays me back
With absolutely nothing

A steel mill of the soul
I bide my stupid time
Sew crazy quilts like these
In penance for what crime?

And then again
like Finegan
My very being sings
The music swells
and all is well
I'm whole again

Sonoma Blue is holding a Second Annual Poetry Contest, co-sponsored by Bookstar in Studio City. $1000 in prizes! Rules for Entry: theme is "ROMANCE & SPRING TIME." All poems must be submitted and received by April 10 and will be judged by an independent panel of judges. The top 10 finalists will be notified by phone prior to the Awards event on April 10th.

YOU WILL NEED a cover sheet which must include your name, address, phone number along with the name of your poem. The cover sheet must also include a statement that you are the original author of the poem. Send four (4) copies of your poem with only the title on the top of the page.

DO NOT put your name on the poem. Poem may not exceed 5 minutes read! There will be no returns of submitted poems and only the 10 finalists will be notified. You may, however, send a self-addressed-stamped-envelope to receive a list of winners or attend the awards ceremony. Failure to follow instructions will result in disqualification. You may enter only one (1) poem!
